Working for Ypsilanti Township.

Meet Brenda Stumbo

A Lifetime of Service: Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Brenda Stumbo's journey to leadership began at an early age. At just five years old, she made Ypsilanti Township her home. After graduating from Lincoln Consolidated Schools, Brenda pursued her passion for community service, earning a bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation from Central Michigan University.

Hello, Ypsilanti Township Residents!

As your dedicated Township Supervisor for the past 15 years, it has been both an honor and a privilege to serve our vibrant community. Operating at the grassroots level has allowed me to connect with many of you personally, and I look forward to continuing to do so.

Our Strength Lies in Diversity: One of our community's greatest strengths is our rich socioeconomic diversity, where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. With a focus on public safety, park preservation, neighborhood stabilization, and economic development, we are committed to fostering an environment where all residents can flourish.

Financial Stewardship for Progress: As Supervisor, it is my responsibility to oversee the Township's $58 million budget, ensuring that every dollar is allocated effectively to advance our community's goals and priorities. Financial stability is essential for driving progress and enhancing the quality of life for all residents. That why we offer complete transparency into decisions and budget line items.

Pioneering Initiatives: Ypsilanti Township has been a trailblazer in various areas, including environmental conservation and affordable housing. We were the first "Bee City" in Michigan, highlighting our commitment to protecting our environment and preserving open spaces. Additionally, our partnership with Habitat for Humanity has enabled us to provide homeownership opportunities and vital resources to our residents.

Community Support and Resources: To further support our residents, we have established the Community Network Center, a hub for connecting individuals with essential resources and services. Led by our dedicated Community Resource Coordinator and social worker, Laurie Lutomski, this initiative aims to increase access and opportunities for all members of our community.

Cybersecurity Education for All: In our ever-evolving digital landscape, cybersecurity awareness is paramount. I am proud to announce the launch of our cybersecurity program, offering free education to up to 10,000 residents. By empowering our community with knowledge, we can better protect ourselves from cyber threats.

There has been 2 cybersecurity 101 events, with cybersecurity videos launching to resident emails who sign up starting in June. As one resident was leaving cybersecurity 101 they said it was “a great use of taxpayer money”.

Engaging Events and Recreation: We take pride in bringing engaging events and recreational opportunities to our community, including the John E. Lawrence Summer Jazz Concert Series, the Rosie the Riveter Arts & Craft Show, and the activities at our bustling Community Center. These events foster community spirit and provide opportunities for residents of all ages to connect and enjoy.

Continued Commitment: I am deeply committed to making Ypsilanti Township the best place to live, work, and thrive. Together with our dedicated staff and Board of Trustees, we will continue to work tirelessly to connect residents to resources to help meet their needs and to thrive in our community.

Thank you for entrusting me with the privilege of serving you.

Warm regards,

Brenda Stumbo
Township Supervisor
